Award-winning artists, researchers and curators, Oron Catts and Ionat Zurr have been artists in residence in UWA’s School of Anatomy and Human Biology since 1996.
Oron and Ionat are considered pioneers in the field of biological arts and are renowned for their Tissue Culture and Art Project. They were central to the establishment of SymbioticA in 2000, and they publish widely and are invited regularly as keynote speakers, to curate exhibitions and to exhibit internationally.
They have recently exhibited as part of the Corpus Extremus (LIFE+) Exhibition at the Exit Art Gallery in New York City, and the Design and Elastic Mind Exhibition at Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, where their work also forms part of the permanent collection.
Oron is the Director of SymbioticA and Ionat, who received her PhD from UWA's Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Arts, is a researcher and SymbioticA's academic co-ordinator.
SymbioticA won the inaugural Prix Ars Electronica, Golden Nica in Hybrid Art Category.
