UWA’s Cultural Precinct is running two design competitions in Second Life.
Imagine is a three-dimensional art and design challenge to create works of art, the best of which are displayed in the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery's Second Life installation. Monthly and eventual winners also have the chance of being part of a real life exhibition at the Gallery next year.
For the Imagine challenge there is a monthly prize for best non-scripted entry.
Flagship is a competition to design the Cultural Precinct’s ‘Art meets Science Gallery’ AXS/lab – which will be an interdisciplinary, experimental collaboration between art, architecture and science providing a showcase for the work of SymbioticA and for the architects and designers from ALVA.
AXS/lab will incorporate a black box performance/screening environment, a science/art gallery and teaching and presentation space for a range of activities across campus, and provide a hub for the Creative Industries Innovation Centre (CIIC), of which UWA is a partner.
UWA plans to erect such a building in real life. The winner of the competition will be consulted on how to turn the Second Life design into reality. Already, in its first month, about 20 artists and designers from Brazil, the US, Canada, the UK, Holland and Australia have entered the challenge.
There are monthly prizes for both competitions of $L 5,000 (second Life dollars). For each competition, the top two each month will go into the pool for a grand prize at the end of 12 months of $L 75,000.
You can enter as many times as you like or for any month that you choose.
To enter the competitions, please go into Second Life, then go to UWA and follow the instructions.
